In April, WPLL CEO Michele DeJuliis told US Lacrosse Magazine during a discussion about the financial struggles of the league that a big-name sponsor was soon to be announced. We now know who.
The WPLL announced Friday afternoon a multi-year partnership with Nike, making the company the official athletic apparel partner and athletic footwear partner of the league.
Nike will be considered a “champion” sponsor.
“The WPLL is thrilled to partner with Nike Lacrosse,” DeJuliis said in a statement. “Our goal since starting this league three years ago was to find partners who truly believe in supporting and empowering female athletes. This multi-year agreement with Nike truly illustrates their commitment to female athletes. Our goal is to align our athletes and league with world-class brands and this agreement delivers on that promise. We couldn’t ask for a better ‘Champion’ partner that cares about female athletes and their personal growth.”
Each of the teams — Brave, Command, Fight and Pride — will adorn custom kits designed by Nike. Nike will also outfit the athletes in cutting edge footwear and premium sideline apparel.
“Nike Lacrosse is excited and proud to begin this partnership with the WPLL,” Mike Fisher, Sales Director for Nike Lacrosse, said in a statement. “Girls lacrosse is the fastest growing segment in the sport and connecting to female athletes and women in sport is our priority. The WPLL athletes represent the highest level of the women’s game, and we feel this a perfect match with the Nike brand.”
