Bloomberg reports that the Premier Lacrosse League has added a pair of notable investors in its most recent round of funding.
World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. (WWE) and Kevin Durant’s Thirty Five Ventures are the latest notable investors in the league. The most recent round of funding was led by the Chernin Group, which was an existing investor in the league. Co-founders Paul and Mike Rabil said the company has been valued at twice the previous round in June 2021.
Bloomberg said the Rabil brothers did not provide a specific dollar figure.
The PLL’s new media rights deal with ESPN, which was inked this offseason, has provided the league with a larger platform to grow its audience.
With a larger commitment from the Chernin Group, the PLL is expected to dive into different content series, including both scripted and unscripted content. The inclusion of the WWE, which also tours the nation, will help the PLL elevate its entertainment profile, the Rabils told Bloomberg.
Thirty Five Ventures “will push the league deeper into the nexus of business, sports and culture through that firm’s diverse network of companies, athletes and executives.”
Other big-name PLL investors include Joe Tsai Sports, Brett Jefferson Holdings, The Raine Group, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Blum Capital, The Kraft Group, Arctos Sports Partners and other top investors in sports and media.
