Chloe Humphrey, a senior attacker at Darien (Conn.), was named the USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ Player of the Year, USA Lacrosse Magazine announced Thursday.
Humphrey led Darien to its first unbeaten season in the perennial power’s program history. The North Carolina-bound attacker scored on 72 percent of her shots to finish with 103 goals while also dishing out 38 assists.
Her high school career ended with the game-winning goal with 1:13 left in the state championship game.
Of all the outstanding players in Darien history, and there’s a lot of them, Humphrey is the best of them all, according to Hall of Fame coach Lisa Lindley.
“The reason I say that is she has all the intangibles,” Lindley said. “She has soft hands, she has an amazing shot. Her IQ is off the chart. She is not blazingly fast, but she’s quick and no one can cover her. You think you have her, and then you don’t.”
Humphrey, who is naturally also the Northeast Girls’ Player of the Year, is joined by four others recognized as regional players of the year.
MID-ATLANTIC
Lindsey Devir, M, Ridgewood (N.J.), Sr.
Devir was a force at both ends of the field to guide Ridgewood to a title. The midfielder helped the Maroons win their first Group 4 state championship since 2019. Even the toughest teams could do little to slow down Devir, who finished second in the state in goals with 117 and also had 58 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers in her final season before heading to Stanford.
