Rye, West Islip New to USA Lacrosse High School Girls' National Top 25
State tournament play is impacting the final weeks of the USA Lacrosse High School Girls’ National Top 25. Two newcomers this week are Rye (N.Y.) and West Islip (N.Y.), the result of picking up significant wins in their postseasons.
Rye handed Queensbury (N.Y.) its first loss of the season, while West Islip knocked off a previously high-ranked Garden City (N.Y.) team.
The top five remains intact with New Canaan (Conn.) the only one among them still active. Two spots back is Darien (Conn.), which is also still alive in their playoffs. That’s the case throughout the remainder of the ranking, with a smattering of Northeast and Mid-Atlantic teams continuing their championship quests interspersed with teams that have finished.
Wilton (Conn.) is lining up another chance to move up, and Sayville (N.Y.) is trying to finish unbeaten. Summit (N.J.) continues to march toward a potential group title. They won both games of the sectional tournament by 18-0 scores in a show of dominance to push into the semifinals against West Essex (N.J.).
No. 25 Colorado Academy completed its season a few weeks ago with a ninth straight state championship. It will come into next year riding a national-best 47-game winning streak.
