The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Games are considered from the previous Monday through Sunday.

NORTHEAST

Evelyn Nelson, Sleepy Hollow (N.Y.)

Evelyn Nelson proved in Sleepy Hollow’s (N.Y.) first game of the season the junior attacker has a flair for the dramatic. The captain of the Horsemen, who reached the 100-goal plateau as a sophomore, won the draw and scored the equalizing goal with seven seconds left in regulation to force overtime and then stripped the ball from an opponent and netted the overtime winner in an 18-17 victory over Rye Neck (N.Y.).

Nelson, who has been on varsity since eighth grade and is a standout field hockey player, had nine goals and one assist in the victory.

“Well beyond her statistics, Evelyn is a true player, always guiding less experienced teammates with her positive mindset,” Sleepy Hollow head coach Mike Marchese said. “She leads by example with a next-level competitiveness, stoic composure and passionate love of the sport.”

Also notable: Keira Bloch, East Islip (N.Y.); Jojo Degl, John Jay-Cross River (N.Y.); Abby Dold, Ursuline (N.Y.); Nicky Einhorn, Briarcliff (N.Y.); Cam Stackhouse, Kennedy Catholic (N.Y.)
