USA Lacrosse High School Girls' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Games are considered from the previous Monday through Sunday.

NORTHEAST

Tori Ottomanelli, Garden City (N.Y.)

It was a good day for Garden City (N.Y.). It was a great day to be an Ottomanelli. In the annual Woodstick Classic showdown against Manhasset (N.Y.), Tori Ottomanelli scored the winner with 5.5 seconds left in the first overtime to lead the Trojans to a thrilling 9-8 victory. The junior midfielder, who is committed to Harvard, scored three goals in the win. Her cousin Andrew Ottomanelli scored twice to lead the Garden City boys to a 7-2 victory over Manhasset.

“Obviously, it’s a super-competitive rivalry every time we play them,” Ottomanelli told Newsday. “They give us their best and we give them our best as well. It’s really just an amazing feeling, especially for our seniors. This is their last Woodstick. Being able to win for them was just amazing.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Sienna Chirieleison, Trinity (Pa.)

The junior midfielder has been putting up big numbers all year despite constant faceguards, and last week the Shamrocks star hit a big milestone. Her 400th career point came in the midst of a 3-0 week for Trinity. For the three-game week she had 16 goals, three assists, 13 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls.

The milestone point came during a six-goal, one-assist, six-ground ball, four-caused turnover effort in a 13-3 win over Bishop McDevitt (Pa.). She followed that up with four goals, two assists, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in a 15-5 win over Mechanicsburg (Pa.). She finished her week with six goals, five caused turnovers and nine ground balls in a 15-11 win over Danville (Pa.). The Syracuse commit leads Trinity with 62 goals, 16 assists, 59 draw controls, 58 ground balls and 57 caused turnovers through 12 games. Chirieleison also competes for the USA Lacrosse U18 Select Team.

SOUTH

Ashlyn Bell, Plant (Fla.)

It’s the postseason and Ashlyn Bell is playing some of her best lacrosse of the season. In the district semifinals against Palm Harbor University (Fla.), the junior attack had a four-goal, two-assist effort. She then followed that with an eight-goal, two-assist performance versus Newsome (Fla.) in Plant’s district final victory. Her eighth goal gave Bell her 50th goal of the year.

MIDWEST

Julia Evens, Benilde-St. Margaret’s (Minn.)

The Red Knights senior is off to a scorching start, tallying 12 goals and 12 assists through just three games. The Marquette commit’s heroics included eight points (five goals and three assists) in a win over Blake on April 18. In addition to her five-goal performances against Blake and Woodbury, Evens has had at least three assists and three draw controls in every game this season, demonstrating how well-rounded she is.

Sofia Williams, Oak Ridge (Calif.)

Junior middie Williams is a powerhouse on Oak Ridge’s defense and draw circle while also tearing it up at the net. Across three games, she registered seven goals, five assists, seven draw controls, two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
