USA Lacrosse High School Girls' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the four active regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

The South and West Regions have completed play so are not considered this week. Games are considered from the previous Monday through Sunday.

NORTHEAST

Ceci Patterson, New Canaan (Conn.)

New Canaan (Conn.) has been blessed with multiple high octane attacking stars this year, led by Devon Russell and the Tully sisters — Lexie and Maddie. But to win an eighth state championship, and second in the last three years, the Rams needed someone to halt Darien’s (Conn.) vaunted attack.

In stepped Ceci Patterson.

The junior goalie was outstanding on the biggest of stages, coming up huge to help New Canaan to a 10-5 victory over the Blue Wave in the CIAC Class LL final.

After Darien scored twice in a 10-second span to cut their deficit to 3-2, the Notre Dame commit, who made eight saves, didn’t allow a goal for nearly 34 minutes as the Rams scored six unanswered goals to take control of the game.

“Ceci was outstanding today,” New Canaan coach Kristen Woods told Hearst Connecticut Media. “She was focused. At the beginning of the game she was getting into the zone and that defensive unit is a strong group of seniors who we’re going to miss next year.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Grace Hallahan, Chatham (N.J.)

The junior attack scored with 22 seconds left in the third overtime to give Chatham a 9-8 upset win over Moorestown (N.J.) for the Group 3 state championship title on June 8. The goal was Hallahan’s second of the game and biggest of her career. She also had an assist. The title game had some other heroes with Addison Barret tying the game with 23 seconds left in regulation and goalie Elizabeth Sherman stopping a free position shot with 12 seconds left to force overtime and set up Hallahan’s game-winner.

Hallahan had a huge week. She delivered a hat trick in the North Jersey, Group 3 championship win over Morris Knolls (N.J.). It was the fourth straight sectional title for the Cougars. Hallahan started the week with a game-high five goals in the Cougars’ 16-7 win over Randolph in the semifinals. Hallahan finished the season tied for the team lead with Ashlyn Carpenter with 54 goals. She also led the team with 128 draw controls, 13 of them in the final week, and was second on the team with 17 caused turnovers this season. She is committed to Richmond.

MIDWEST

Claire Marosi, Grand Rapids Catholic Central (Mich.)

Marosi etched her name permanently among the greats of Mitten State lacrosse with 154 goals as a senior, the third-highest single-season total in Michigan history. That included back-to-back goals in the span of 1:15 after Detroit Country Day had taken an 8-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. Marosi also helped the Cougars kill valuable time, drawing a pair of penalties while maintaining possession in the final minute. The Northwestern commit thus helped Grand Rapids Catholic Central complete a perfect season.
