USA Lacrosse High School Girls' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school girls’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Kelly Haggerty, Sacred Heart (Conn.)

Kelly Haggerty was instrumental in another big week for Sacred Heart (Conn.), the latest example of her “crushing it” all season, according to Sacred Heart co-coach Sharon Robinson.

“Kelly is a strong and versatile for Sacred Heart, a leader on a talented and dominant team,” Robinson said.

The senior attacker, a Fairfield commit, had four goals and one assist in a 13-5 victory over Loomis Chaffee (Conn.), followed by four goals and two assists in a 19-6 win over Taft (Conn.).

“Her ability to provide a spark when needed, control the tempo of the game, feed with finesse and dodge with power sets her apart,” added co-coach Jackie Goldmann.

MID-ATLANTIC

Reagan O’Donovan, McDonogh (Md.)

The freshman goalie came up with her best game in the biggest spot of her young career. O’Donovan made several of her most difficult saves early to keep the Eagles close to St. Paul’s (Md.) in the IAAM A Conference championship game. After trailing, 6-3, O’Donovan and the defense were able to limit St. Paul’s and go on to a 13-8 win for their first conference crown since 2019. O’Donovan finished with nine saves. She also made five saves and allowed just four scores in a 13-4 win over Glenelg Country Day (Md.) in the conference semifinals. O’Donovan set the tone early as McDonogh bolted out to leads of 5-0 and 10-2.

SOUTH

Mae Flanagan, Hockaday (Texas)

Mae Flanagan played a key role in Hockaday’s dominating and undefeated run to a state title. In the championship victory over St. Michaels (Texas), she scored three goals and caused five turnovers. In the semifinal win over Frisco (Texas), she scored six goals and picked up three ground balls.

MIDWEST

Hannah Simon, Oak Park and River Forest (Ill.)

The Huskies raised eyebrows this week. By edging Downers Grove. By leading powerhouse New Trier late in the first half. By upsetting Marist, one of the top teams in the state. Simon had a huge role in all of those performances, with a hat trick in all three games. Indeed, Simon had a hat trick in the first half against the Trevians before, said New Trier coach Peter Collins, “we made some adjustments to slow her down.” With over 100 career goals already as a sophomore, Simon, per Collins, is “one of the top attackers in the state.” Indeed, according to OPRF coach James Borja, Simon ranks sixth in the state in points.

Kampbell Stone, Upper Arlington (Ohio)

The Ohio State commit helped the Golden Bears close the regular season in dominant fashion, tallying hat tricks against in-state foes Medina and Worthington Kilbourne. Against the Wolves, Stone did a little bit of everything with four goals, two assists, five draw controls and four ground balls. Against the Bees, it was the same story with six goals, three assists, six draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. The senior has been that kind of complete player all season, ending the regular season with 78 goals, 85 draws, 34 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers.

WEST

Riley Padian, Palos Verdes (Calif.)

The junior had a big week to help Palos Verdes (Calif.) reach the CIF Southern Section Division 2 final, where the Sea Kings came up just short of a title in a 12-11 loss to Crescenta Valley (Calif.). Padian had three goals and one assist in that loss, helping keep the Sea Kings in the game, but her play in the semifinals and quarterfinals were key to the team advancing. In a 12-8 win over Chaminade Prep (Calif.) in the semifinals, Padian scored seven goals and had one assist. She also had seven goals and four assists in a 16-12 win over West Ranch (Calif.) in the quarterfinals, bringing her total stats for the final three games to 17 goals, six assists and 24 draw controls. The Towson University commit finished the year with single-season school records for goals (97, breaking her own record of 83 from last year) and points (140), and she also had 154 draw controls.
