Belmont Hill Among 4 New Teams in High School Boys' National Top 25
The USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25 has four new teams and plenty of adjustments. Some changes are the result of many Northeast Region teams swinging into action, some come from key head-to-head matchups, and there’s one important previous result that has had a major effect.
Let’s work backwards, starting with that result. Two weeks ago, St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) beat St. Paul’s (Md.) 16-12. That result pushed the Wildcats way up to No. 16 this week after St. Paul’s, which already had a tight win over Landon (Md.), knocked off previously unbeaten Bullis (Md.) to join the rankings at No. 17. St. Ignatius will face two top-20 teams this week with Lawrenceville (N.J.) and Chaminade (N.Y.).
Chaminade is looking to bounce back from losing a pair to McDonogh (Md.) and Salesianum (Del.). The ripple effect of those losses pushed several Northeast teams behind Chaminade down lower than might be expected.
Early results opened the door for newcomers. Belmont Hill (Mass.) impressed in back-to-back wins and debuts at No. 11. Landon (Md.), whose only other loss has come in overtime to highly regarded Haverford (Pa.), and LaSalle Academy (R.I.), which opened with a big win over Garden City (N.Y.), earn rankings after strong starts.
With most teams in action now and important matchups on the horizon, opportunities abound to solidify the rankings.
