Brunswick Last Unbeaten Standing in USA Lacrosse Boys' National Top 25
It’s the calm before a potential storm in the USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25.
With playoff schedules starting in many regions, there is the potential for big moves. This week’s changes are subtle, with just one new team joining the Top 25. Wantagh (N.Y.), which has been streaking over the last three weeks, is the new No. 25 and just outside the top 10 teams from the Northeast Region.
The biggest changes this week came from teams suffering rare losses. Both La Salle (Pa.) and Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.) lost for the first time this year. The losses dropped them significantly due to a lower strength of schedule. Calvert Hall (Md.) also slid significantly after suffering three straight losses to close the season.
Gilman (Md.), on the other hand, climbed a couple spots because of its playoff win over Calvert Hall. The MIAA playoffs give four of the Top 25 teams a chance to go head-to-head; St. John’s College High (D.C.) faces a strong Gonzaga (D.C.) team for a league title; and New York’s playoffs open soon for the chance to reinforce their rankings.
With La Salle and Half Hollow Hills falling for the first time, it leaves No. 1 Brunswick (Conn.) as the lone unbeaten among the Top 25. The Bears will try to stay that way at the prep national tournament this week.
