Haverford Joins Top 3 of USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25
A top-four matchup made a little switch near the top of the USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25, while there were plenty of changes in the final half of the latest ranking update.
Haverford (Pa.) remained unbeaten with a head-to-head win over former No. 3 Malvern (Pa.) to flip spots into the top three. Three new teams joined the ranking, with teams nationwide soon winding down regular-season schedules and the South Region already in playoffs.
Big wins for Salesianum (Del.) and Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.) helped both make leaps. Both are 10-0. McDonogh (Md.) suffered a narrow loss to unranked but up-and-coming Archbishop Spalding (Md.) to fall five spots. Gilman (Md.), too, suffered its first loss in the uber-competitive MIAA. East Islip (N.Y.), the victim of Bayport’s big win, remains in the Top 25 at 9-1.
Unbeaten Half Hollow Hills (N.Y.) rides its 10-game winning streak into the rankings at No. 18, just ahead of a Garden City (N.Y.) squad that utilized a win in the Woodstick Classic to vault back into the Top 25. The other newcomer is St. Paul’s (Md.), a team that has knocked off a couple of teams ranked above it and lost to a few teams below it. The Crusaders could be dangerous down the homestretch in the MIAA. They could even still move up higher with opportunities remaining against Calvert Hall (Md.), Spalding (Md.), Loyola Blakefield (Md.) and Boys’ Latin (Md.).
Darien (Conn.) also remains just inside the Top 25 just like a number of Connecticut teams along with New Canaan, Wilton and Staples that are knocking at the door regionally and nationally.
West Region top team St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.) is one team that’s knocked off St. Paul’s, and they look to build further momentum for the playoffs when they wrap up the regular season this week.
