Hoyas, Wreckers Join USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25
There were minimal changes to the USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25, as many teams have already completed their seasons. Two newcomers enter the rankings, though — one based on late-season success and the other on their body of work.
Staples (Conn.) is the highest newcomer at No. 21. The Wreckers went through three of Connecticut’s best, closing out their run with a victory over Darien (Conn.), to win their first FCIAC title. Staples had six losses on the year, but when the games meant the most, it figured out a way to win.
Georgetown Prep (Md.) comes in at No. 25. The Hoyas lost in overtime to Gonzaga (D.C.) in the middle of the season but beat Bullis (Md.) twice, and Bullis finished the year topping Gonzaga. The Hoyas, who overcame huge graduation losses, suffered their only other defeats at the hands of Malvern Prep (Pa.), a Gilman (Md.) team in one of its best seasons in recent history, and a resurgent Landon (Md.).
Little movement is possible going forward. Only Salesianum (Del.), La Salle (Pa.), and some New York public schools have games scheduled this week among the Top 25 teams.
Even at the high school level, this spring we’ve seen parity around the country. Just consider that there are no unbeaten teams in the Top 25 this year.
ABOUT OUR RANKINGS
High school rankings are compiled by USA Lacrosse Magazine writers with input from coaches around the country. Teams with post-graduate players are not eligible, nor are those from outside the United States. These rankings are not affiliated with the official USA Lacrosse High School Awards program overseen by area chairs.
