State Champs Define USA Lacrosse High School Boys' National Top 25
Two new teams entered the final USA Lacrosse High School Boys’ National Top 25 on the strength of state championship wins, and the top 20 teams sit firmly entrenched after New York and Connecticut completed state tournament play.
McQuaid Jesuit (N.Y.) took an overtime win over Farmingdale (N.Y.) in the state championship game to land just outside of the top 20 at No. 21. Cold Spring Harbor (N.Y.) won its third straight Class D state title after riding a fast start to a win over Marcellus (N.Y.).
Bayport-Blue Point (N.Y.), Fairfield Prep (Conn.) and South Side (N.Y.) all took care of business in their state finals to ensure there was no movement among the top 20 teams. All three teams coincidentally finished 21-1. Fairfield went through a pair of teams formerly in the Top 25 in Ridgefield (Conn.) and Darien (Conn.), while Bayport-Blue Point and South Side both rallied to win titles.
Farmingdale (N.Y.), which went toe-to-toe with McQuaid Jesuit in the state final, remains in the Top 25, taking the last spot after a solid finish to its season.
No. 17 La Salle (Pa.) remains the lone active team in the Top 25. The Explorers are into the state semifinals against public power Springfield-Delco (Pa.) on June 11. The final will be played at Penn State on June 15.
