USA Lacrosse High School Boys' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

NORTHEAST

Stevie Finnell, Garden City (N.Y.)

Stevie Finnell has a flair for the dramatic. As a junior, he scored the overtime winner to lift Garden City (N.Y.) to a win over host Manhasset (N.Y.) in the 138th edition of the Woodstick Classic. And on Saturday, the Duke-bound senior scored the decisive goal — his fourth of the game — in the fourth overtime to lead the Trojans to an 8-7 win at Ward Melville (N.Y.). Finnell also scored four goals in a come-from-behind 11-8 win over Syosset during the midweek. The son of Garden City head coach Steve Finnell has 11 goals and one assist at the start of his final high school season.

“Stevie had a great week. He leads by example by playing really hard,” said Steve Finnell, citing the team effort it took to beat Ward Melville. “He and Jack Archer are an impressive two-headed monster on the offensive side for us, Cole Webber was really impactful in the middle of the field and Denis Fargione (23 saves) was huge in the cage, making big saves and clearing the ball well.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Colin French, Radnor (Pa.)

The senior attackman scored five goals in 15-7 win over Malvern Prep (Pa.). The game matched up last year’s 3A state champion Raptors with the defending 2022 Inter-Ac champions. He also had a goal and three assists in a 14-0 win over Harriton (Pa.). The Lehigh commit comes off a season in which he tied Ryan Goldstein for the team lead with 49 goals.

SOUTH

Nick Testa, St. Andrew’s (Fla.)

Playing for perennial power St. Andrew’s, freshman midfielder Nick Testa had carved himself an important role on the squad. In last week’s win over Gulliver Prep (Fla.), Testa contributed nine assists and added five ground balls. In the Scots’ previous game against American Heritage (Fla.), Testa scored twice, had seven helpers and also had a ground ball. He has 25 goals, 43 assists and 25 ground balls to date.

MIDWEST

Caden Daley, Detroit Country Day (Mich.)

Caden Daley's massive week for a Yellowjackets team that had a huge week began with a Tuesday hat trick against Forest Hills Central, last year's undefeated Michigan Division 2 champion. Then came two goals against Romeo (Mich.) Wednesday and four against Cranbrook (Mich.) Saturday. Per coach Chris Garland, Daley "has been instrumental to our success early in the season through his ability to score goals in a variety of ways." Scarier yet, per Garland, Daley "has yet to scratch the surface of his potential as a lacrosse player."

WEST

Jack Porter, St. Ignatius Prep (Calif.)

The senior attackman powered the Wildcats to a 12-9 win over No. 8-ranked Jesuit Portland (Ore.) last week, tallying five goals and one assist. He also had four goals in a 20-2 win over St. Francis-La Canada (Calif.) and three goals in an 11-7 win over rival Redwood (Calif.). Porter is committed to Drexel.
