USA Lacrosse High School Boys' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage.

The Mid-Atlantic, South and West are the only regions to be honored this week with most in the other two regions not yet playing.

MID-ATLANTIC BOYS

James Meyer, Gilman (Md.)

Meyer and the Greyhounds were down big to Georgetown when they started a comeback for the ages. Trailing 11-3 in the third quarter, Meyer and Jay Rodgers helped the Gilman crew inch closer. Griffin Graham found Rodgers at the doorstep to send it into overtime, which set up Meyer’s heroics in overtime.

The senior midfielder rocketed in a shot from the left wing to send the Greyhounds to a 12-11 win. He finished with a game-high five points on two goals and three assists. Meyer will continue his lacrosse career next year at Washington and Lee.

SOUTH BOYS

Jayden Vega, Benjamin (Fla.)

Last week was a wild one for Vega. The junior attacker helped Benjamin to wins over St. Edward’s (Fla.) and St. John Paul II Academy (Fla.). Against St. Edward’s (Fla.), Vega had a hat trick, then he followed that with a nine-goal, three-assist effort against St. John Paul II Academy. 

The Palm Beach Post later reported that Vega needed medical attention by medics during the contest against St. John Paul II Academy. Vega tweeted after the game, “Will be back soon.”

WEST BOYS

Eddie Lin, Redwood (Calif.)

Lin, a senior, anchored the Giants’ defense in their 10-8 upset over former No. 5 Sacred Heart Prep (Calif.) on March 8. The Bates-bound defenseman intercepted three passes and contributed six ground balls and one goal in the statement victory. Lin is a dual athlete for the Giants, competing as a defensive end on the school’s football team.
