USA Lacrosse High School Boys' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. 

The Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West are the only regions to be honored this week with the Northeast not yet fully underway.

MID-ATLANTIC

Quinn Anzelone, Bullis (Md.)

Anzelone had six goals and four assists in a pair of wins for the Bulldogs, who have started the season 4-0. The junior attackman had a goal and assist against Archbishop Spalding (Md.) in a 10-9 win on March 13. He followed it up with a five-goal, three-assist effort against Springside Chestnut Hill (Pa.) in the IAC/Inter-Ac Challenge on March 16 at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.). Anzelone is committed to Navy.

SOUTH

Nick Testa, St. Andrew’s (Fla.)

Against high-level competition, St. Andrew’s Nick Testa is proving to be an excellent all-around player. The sophomore attackman had a combined 13 assists in contests against Boys’ Latin (Md.), Lake Mary (Fla.) and Lake Highland Prep (Fla.). He also picked up four ground balls during the week. In 13 games, he has 30 goals and 46 assists, leading St. Andrew’s to a 12-1 record, with its only loss coming to Boys’ Latin.

MIDWEST

Draden Torline, Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.)

No one has been surprised by the remarkable numbers already posted by the Hawklets’ Luke McNamara (Utah), Jack Bichelmeyer (Ohio State) and Colin Komenda (Denver). Sophomore Draden Torline, on the other hand, has been a wonderful surprise in his first year starting in net, amassing 69 saves through five games, including 19 against Georgetown Prep (Md.) and 18 versus Good Counsel (Md.). He also had 11 in a big win over St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes (Va.).

WEST

Porter Malkiel, Jesuit Portland (Ore.)

Senior Porter Malkiel (Princeton) is the quarterback of Jesuit Portland’s offense. He recorded three goals and three assists in the Crusaders’ victory over Lake Oswego (Ore.), then went for four goals and two assists against Royal Bay Academy (Canada), where he went head-to-head with fellow Division I commit Chris Monckton (Robert Morris). Improved in his passing, Malkiel’s explosive first step makes him a tough cover.
