USA Lacrosse High School Boys' Players of the Week

The USA Lacrosse Players of the Week recognize the most outstanding individual performances in high school boys’ lacrosse in each of the five regions — Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, Midwest and West — outlined in our high school coverage. Games are considered from the previous Monday through Sunday.

NORTHEAST

Matt Baldino, East Islip (N.Y.)

At Boomer Esiason Stadium on Saturday afternoon, East Islip (N.Y.) made a huge statement by taking down reigning Suffolk Class C champions Shoreham-Wading River (N.Y.). And no one spoke louder for the Redmen than Matt Baldino. The Pace-bound lefty attackman had six goals and four assists in a 16-10 victory for undefeated East Islip, which avenged a 14-5 loss to SWR a year ago.

“Matt was a perfect teammate, he took everything the defensive gave him, he took the shot if it was open or he was in distributor mode if they left his teammates open,” East Islip coach Tom Zummo said. “He did an amazing job in our ride and when your team is playing well, your lefty should reap the benefits.”

MID-ATLANTIC

Connor Gately, Lawrenceville (N.J.)

Gately has been the leading scorer for Lawrenceville and a vital piece to their unbeaten start after graduating several top attackmen last year. The senior attackman scored seven goals and delivered four assists in the Big Red’s 19-6 win over West Region No. 1 St. Ignatius Prep, then had four points on a goal and three assists to pace Lawrenceville in a 9-4 win over Mid-Atlantic No. 2 Malvern Prep (Pa.). Gately was also key on Lawrenceville’s 10-man ride that caused major issues for Malvern as the Big Red jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Gately leads the team through eight games with 25 goals and 23 assists while shooting 41 percent. He is committed to Yale.

SOUTH

Mitchell Campbell, Lake Mary (Fla.)

On a highly talented squad that includes the likes of Caden Harsbarger and John Scarelli, Mitchell Campbell had a standout week for Lake Mary. The senior attacker helped lead the Rams to a three-win week, with victories over Lake Highland Prep (Fla.), Seton Hall Prep (N.J.) and Viera (Fla.). He had seven goals and three assists for the week, including scoring two important goals against Seton Hall Prep. He is committed to St. John’s.

MIDWEST

Luke McNamara, Rockhurst Jesuit (Mo.)

Meet Missouri's new all-time leading scorer, Luke McNamara. He did it in style with eight goals against one of The Show Me State's top teams: Chaminade. That performance followed another doozy as he scored five goals earlier in the week against St. Thomas Aquinas (Kan.). McNamara now has five-plus goals in four straight games and in seven of nine this season. The Utah commit already has 53 goals through just nine games as he's averaging nearly six goals per contest (to go with 2.7 ground balls).

WEST

Owen Burke, Cherry Creek (Colo.)

Senior attack Burke (Denver) netted 14 goals and registered two assists across Cherry Creek’s three victories last week. He scored six alone against Legend (Colo.).
