Help Change the Concussion Culture

By USA Lacrosse Press Release

Good teammates look out for each other.

That’s the premise behind the Team Up Against Concussion campaign, in which players are encouraged to notify a coach or athletic trainer if they suspect a teammate might have a concussion.

USA Lacrosse has partnered with the Concussion Legacy Foundation to help promote a healthy team environment in which players are encouraged to speak up on behalf of an injured teammate. The goal is to establish a strong concussion culture on all teams.

This week, Sept. 30 – Oct. 5, has been designated as Team Up Against Concussions week for lacrosse teams across the country. As fall practices get underway, USA Lacrosse encourages coaches and team leaders to give a simple speech reminding all players to take the responsibility of speaking up about concussions.

The core message is a simple one: teammates have a responsibility to speak up to a team leader if they notice concussion signs in a teammate.

Giving the speech is easy and quick, and involves three main points:

1. We’re a team, and teammates look out for each other.

2. A teammate with a concussion needs your help.

3. Make sure you speak up to a coach or an athletic trainer if you think one of our teammates has a concussion.

Teams that are interested in filming their TUAC speeches can spread the word on social media channels. Make sure to tag both USA Lacrosse and CLF on social via X (@USA_Lacrosse; @ConcussionLF) and Instagram (@uslacrosse; @concussionfoundation).
