11-TIME WORLD CHAMPIONS
The most accomplished international lacrosse program made it two championships in a row with a 10-7 victory over Canada on July 1, 2023 in San Diego. Brennan O'Neill, the youngest player on the U.S. roster, scored five goals in the championship game win over its rival.
The U.S. - Canada rivalry in men's lacrosse is simply one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Since 2002, the two countries had altered championships with the U.S. winning in 2002, 2010 and 2018 and Canada winning in 2006 and 2014. The U.S. victory in 2023 gave the U.S. back-to-back championships for the first time since winning six in a row from 1982 through 2002.
The 2023 championship was a record 11th for the U.S. team program since the inaugural championship in 1967. Duke head coach John Danowski became the first U.S. coach to win two world championships.
